President Talabani’s office issues press statement regarding elections law24-11-2009
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani’s office issued a press statement regarding the elections law, which was approved by the Iraqi Parliament on Monday November 23, 2009.
“President Talabani praised the law and considered it as an embodiment for all the Iraqi people wishes and as an expression for justice and national consensus”, the statement said.
President Talabani praised the efforts of the parliamentary political blocs and called on all the parties not to use the elections in illegal ways to harm the national stability and help the sides that want the political process to fail.
“The differences in views among the parliamentary political blocs, regarding the ratios of distributing the seats, emphasize the necessity to carry out the general census in Iraq.
President Talabani hopes that VP al-Hashimi will understand the decision of the Parliament and take the suitable decision”, the statement added.
