Brussels agreed with Baghdad on the outline for the first partnership agreement with Iraq

BRUSSELS (Agencies): The European Union, Iraq, the outlines for the first partnership and cooperation agreement between them, with the allocation of a large portion of trade and investment, as announced on Friday, negotiators representing the two sides.

Said European Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner said: "For the first time, we will establish a contractual relationship with the new Iraq "that he hoped to approve the European countries and the Iraqi government quickly on the agreement and the signature.

He said the Commission negotiator for the Hughes Mingarill that the agreement would continue negotiations in three years, particular sets a framework "for political dialogue, regular and permanent" on the rule of law and democracy and the challenges of regional policy.

Deals with the other side of the agreement to expand trade exchange and investments in Iraq, especially through customs agreements with the European Union.

The pact also aims to define a framework of cooperation in several areas such as dealing with migration and the environment, energy and health.

The Mingarill said the agreement also addresses terrorism and prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Agreement will be referred to member states of the European Union as of next week.

Since 2003, the European Commission contributed to reconstruction in Iraq worth more than 900 million euros.
