Prime ministers of Russia, Italy and Turkey-Vladimir Putin, Silvio Berlusconi and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have discussed realization of the South Stream pipeline project.

Probably all details of the negotiations would be kept in secret. However, there is an assumption that the South Stream would be redirected to Turkey as going round Bulgaria, said economic analyzer Oleg Mityanev for RIA Novosti.

South Stream project envisages gas transmission from Russia along the bottom of the Black Sea to South Europe. Probably the results of the negotiations in Saint Petersburg would be that Black Sea part of the South Stream pipeline would pass from Russia to Turkey not to Bulgaria as it was planed.

Until now Russia has counted on Bulgaria in this region. However, the new pro west Bulgarian government decided to reconsider all of the taken engagements in the energy field.

The country would take part of Nabucco pipeline project. Bulgaria has started asking for extra rights over South Stream project. Moreover, Bulgarian government has decided to reconsider conditions on the construction of Burgas–Alexandroupoli pipeline project
