Kuwait to develop economic, trade ties with Asian states

COLOMBO, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is eager to develop its commercial and economic ties with other Asian countries for the common benefit of all involved parties, said a statement here Tuesday.

This came in Kuwait's speech to the eighth meeting for Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) which was held in Sri Lanka and opened by President Mahinda Rajapaska.

Head of Kuwait's Foreign Ministry's Asian department Ambassador Mohammad Ahmad Al-Roumi delivered a speech on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and said that Kuwait was keen on bolstering relations with other Asian countries, supporting any business projects whether huge or small.

Kuwait had lived up to its international commitments to support and develop economic funding programs worldwide, he said, noting that through the efforts of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) the Gulf country had contributed over USD 14.5 billion to help support projects in more than 100 states.

Al-Roumi also revealed that Kuwait was well aware of the negative impact of global inflation on world economy which led it to support initiatives for economic growth in the world especially in poor economies. The initiative for USD 100 billion decent living fund was launched by Kuwait, stated the official who also indicated that Kuwait contributed USD 300 million to combating poverty in Africa.

Al-Roumi affirmed that Kuwait would be much honored to host the 10th meeting for ACD's Foreign Ministers.
