Kuwait-Iraq border situation calm - interior minister

KUWAIT -- Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Khalid Al-Sabah said here Tuesday the situation on the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border was calm and stable.
"There is no security problem with the Iraqi side," he told KUNA ahead of flying to Egypt's Red Sea Sharm El-Sheikh resort to attend the sixth meeting of the interior ministers of Iraq's neighboring countries due to be held there on Wednesday."Security in the entire region is inseparable," he said.
He added that a stable situation on the Iraqi scene would favorably reflect on the situation in other neighboring nations. Sheikh Jaber stressed the significance of the Sharm El-Sheikh meeting which comes at a critical time when the region is undergoing a historic turning point.
He said the agenda of the gathering mainly includes the possible role of Iraq's neighboring countries to protect Iraq's security and the discussion of implementation of key recommendations made during the previous meeting in Jordan last year, as well as their efforts to fight terror, cross-border smuggling and drug trafficking.
Sheikh Jaber reiterated that all the neighboring countries of Iraq are keen on full cooperation with the Iraqi side in all fields in order to help it overcome its security problems. "Through joint regional coordination and cooperation, such problems can be resolved," the minister said.
He voiced hope that the Sharm El-Sheikh meeting could come up with a unified vision for meeting regional challenges.A high-level security delegation is accompanying the Kuwaiti interior minister during his stay in Sharm El-Sheikh for the Iraq neighbors' meeting.
