All ASEAN leaders, diaglogue partners to attend 15th ASEAN Summit


BANGKOK, October 2009


Director-General of the Foreign Ministry's ASEAN Affairs Department, Vitavas Srivihok, revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is prepared to present the theme of the 15th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits to the next cabinet meeting.

Mr Vitavas stated that the ministry would present the official theme for the 15th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits "Enhancing Connectivity, Empowering Peoples" to the cabinet meeting for consideration on 6 October.


He elaborated that the theme reflected the fact that Thailand, as the Chair of ASEAN, placed most importance on the benefit of the ASEAN community as its priority as clearly noticed during previous meetings, especially the enforcement of the ASEAN Charter and the establishment of the Committee of ASEAN Human Rights Commission.

He insisted that all ASEAN leaders and dialogue partners have expressed their intention to participate in the 15th ASEAN Summit and related summits which will be held during 23-25 October, 2009 in Cha-am and Hua Hin districts of Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces.

Mr Vittavas noted that there would be 15 international agreements concerning multilateral cooperation on food and economic measures to be co-signed during the summit.
