Upcoming GCC economic meeting to discuss customs

KUWAIT, Sep 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait will participate in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) economic undersecretaries meeting on customs held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on September 6-7, Ministry of Finance said Thursday.
The Kuwaiti delegation headed by the ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs Sami Al-Saqabi will be taking part in the 30th meeting of GCC's finance, economy, commerce, and industry undersecretaries, a statement by the ministry said.
The joint meeting will tackle issues related to the customs imposed by some GCC countries on products that are similar to the local ones, as well as the measures taken to protect commercial agents, it said.
The meeting will also touch on ways to speed up the execution of the GCC joint market, it said, adding that it will tackle studies conducted on collecting and distributing customs tariffs within the GCC customs'union.
The importance of this meeting lies in the fact that it is held only months before the GCC customs' union is scheduled to kick off, it said.It is expected that all ends will reach a comprehensive agreement on the matters discussed, which will help boost economic cooperation among GCC countries, it added.
