Parliament to focus on elections, oil, gas, retirement bills - MP

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq’s parliament will give priority to review the elections, oil, gas, and retirement draft laws in its upcoming sessions, according to MP Nour al-Din al-Hayali, from the Iraqi Accord Front.

“The parliament will review important draft laws such as oil, gas, 2010 general budget, retirement and protecting journalists bill,” al-Hayali told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, noting that the parliament will give priority to these bills in the coming session.

“There is an intention inside the parliament to approve the retirement law to increase the retired people’s income,” he added.

The parliament failed to hold the last session on Sept. 15 before the Lesser Bairam due to lack of quorum.

Said media director for House Speaker Omar al-Mashhadani, the parliament sessions for the remainder of the current age of the Council will be allocated to discuss oil and gas laws, retirement, and elections.

He said al-Mashhadani told state reporter:

The members of the House of Representatives want to finish this important laws before the expiration of the remainder of the Council and the transition to the new session, the fact that these laws are important for the Iraqi street.

Indicating that the parliament will discuss the important laws that can not be overcome, such as oil and gas law and the general budget for the year 2010 and the election law and the law of retirement and the Law to Protect Journalists.
